Two-stage wine filtration has the following major advantages:
The first stage membrane filtration capacity is higher than the equivalent membrane area in a single stage system.
This is because the circulating sediment load is minimized by continuously bleeding off a controlled flow of the sediment- bearing retentate to the second stage.
The second stage has a positive displacement pump and a special type of membrane that can further concentrate the sediment and discharge it from the system as a thick slurry or paste.
The result is a greater overall throughput and enhanced filtered wine yield.
